Last week I was on vacation and we visited Mount Rushmore. This sign caught my attention.
After getting home, I found out these signs are in other national parks and have been posted since at least 2017.
Since when do we have areas designated for us to exercise our freedoms that are explicitly mentioned in the constitution?
Reminder of the text of the First Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Are there places in the USA where we are not free to follow our own religion? Or are there places we are not allowed to express our free thoughts? Are there places we may not gather and protest against government actions we disagree with?
Why have these signs been put up? Was there violence committed against people exercising their freedoms? If so, then perhaps a sign that mentions violence is prohibited would be more appropriate?
Related to this is that our Second Amendment rights are taken away from us in certain places like federal buildings. Certainly I can see an argument in favor of restricting carrying firearms into a court building where there is reasonable concern that violence might occur, but a gift shop at Mount Rushmore?
Why are people okay with letting freedom slip away?
If it was put up due to people being violent or repressing then first amendment I’d like to thing they would’ve been smart and mentioned that part , but no . Just hey it’s free to have your rights here ! What about anywhere else ? Are we not allowed it if we step off of Mount Rushmore ? (Kidding , but really it’s absurd !!) this is a great make you think read
