The other thing about specialization is that we can miss the gestalt. Because the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Seeing patterns is important in understanding the world. I think that specialization also makes us vulnerable to anyone who claims to be an expert. Even if they are the worst in their field.

Complexity can be overwhelming. Especially if a person is used to being entertained by screens. Using your intelligence can be fun, but for many it's exhausting. We do need downtime, of course.

Intelligence and health support one another. If people are less healthy, they will likely be less able to solve real world problems. Enough sleep, healthy food, etc.

Agreed! I'm biased toward "big picture" as that is the type of person I am. Specialists are fantastic, I'm glad we've got them, but we also need generalists. You make an excellent point in that we can get some absolutely terrible ideas and guidance from the "experts" who are specialists but the "worst in their field".

Regularly I knock MDs, but that's not completely fair. Some are brilliant wonderful people. Some are downright dangerous (and greedy). My father had a strong appreciation and trust in MDs, but that was because his father was an MD. As my Dad used to observe, the modern MDs are not the same as what my grandfather was. I aspire to be more like my grandfather. All I need is to be financially comfortable, beyond that I enjoy helping people. I detest tyrants that want to force their ideas upon the rest of us.

It's a delicate dance to weave in and out of complexity vs understanding. Give me a little bit of simplicity and a little bit of complexity!

I believe many are dumbed down, from young to old. Along with, just tap a thing on your phone, and place an order. People are LAZY and don't even have to get off the couch or for that matter out of bed. Just let your "phone" do it for you. That still means the delivery people have to do YOUR work for you. I have been hearing a commercial about just buying a Lottery ticket from yoiu phone, you can pay for it by Phone and don't even have to go get it! HOW STUPID AND LAZY can people be!

Yes, we have been "dumbed down" and many commercial ventures are exploiting this with the excellent concept for making money of "make it easy for someone to spend money and they will".

Pretty sure you know what I think. But I’ll tell you, I think the kids might be alright. I think the younger generation is starting to reject all this new found technology. I see you get kids beginning to flock towards the corporeal. I witnessed a bunch of 8 graders run out of school last week during recess to go make a snowman at the first sign of snow, when they had a chance to stay indoors and play on computers. It really made my heart sing.
