“You’re Fired!”
AI canceled, Humans hired
Some companies are realizing that AI actually has to earn it’s keep!
Upper management is a bit drunk on the idea of reducing costs by using simulated intelligence and firing humans, but it turns out that isn’t always a rosy picture. Some people are realizing that humans are actually better (more cost effective) than simulated intelligence, even at some tasks where AI is considered to be an excellent fit.

This article discusses a few companies (55%) are regretting hiring AI and laying off people.
“Last year, McDonald’s admitted defeat and took out automated orders.”
Yes, simulated intelligence is an amazingly powerful tool. But it has to be used appropriately. It doesn’t just blindly replace humans.

Computer technology will never get around the basic truth of "garbage in - garbage out."
If the people programming the AI really don't understand the task that a company needs done, the AI is particularly likely to be garbage. Even before companies were using AI, many IT departments were full of people who had no concept of what the company really did for a living. To them, life was about trying to develop the most "gee whiz wonderful" computer system, and they didn't care how well the system really supported the goal of producing whatever product the company made and sold.
I'm surprised that there are upper managers who are wise enough to understand this problem. Maybe a few companies are run by people with more wisdom that others. Maybe those people are realizing that AI still can't think and that nothing can replace a human being who knows how to communicate with another human being, understand a problem, and solve a problem.
