Government to the Rescue?

A friend, who is also cynical about government (not just the USA) proposes “The Universal Solution”:

“If we just pay more in taxes and give up liberty, everything will be fine.”

Climate Change? No problem, just fund the government. Natural disasters? Oh, those must be due to climate change – send the government more money!

Wars across the world? No problem, once again just fund the government (to spend money to keep those wars going).

Is this nature? Should we blame climate change? Should we blame humans for the climate change?

You decide. In any case, the most likely course of action is for the government to spend more money. From what I’ve heard, our friends outside Seattle actually really do need help!

I’m just not convinced this should be yet another excuse for funding the fight against climate change. Which of course requires more than just money, it requires us to give up our liberty too.

It would seem that humanity needs to take a page from the book of the Amish. They seem to be absolutely awesome at helping after a natural disaster.
