Brilliant takedown of the AI hype machine. The "Simulated Intelligence" framing cuts through somuch noise because it reminds folks these are narrow tools, not thinking entities. I've seen enterprise teams waste millions chasing "general AI" solutions when specialized simulations woulda solved their actual problems. The resource asymmetry between training and inference gets lost inall the breathless coverage too.

I'm sure the average person has no idea of the massive effort it is to "train" (that's not something that a walking around robot is going to have the power to be able to do in real time - at least not until there is some major breakthrough).

How long ago did you ask Grok? These tools are improving very rapidly. Grok generates plenty of crap, but I'm used to throwing away a lot of images as "nope, that's not what I wanted" or "that's crap".
For my articles I just want a basic image in the theme of what I had in mind. I'm not particularly picky about it being "good".

maybe 6 months ago, for a meme I wanted to make. I used clip art instead. I too throw away a lot, or in my case, paint over it. 😂

I started a NEW Grok chat and it did a decent job of making a mouse!
I just asked it for a mouse. It kept the context of my previous request so I got a mouse that looks like "Terminator" (in mouse robot form). 🤣
Yes, give the poor thing at least a second chance. It's probably only about as old as a toddler and maybe it doesn't really know what a mouse is?
