At the end of “Scythe”, Neal Shusterman writes:
“The first scythes were true visionaries and saw the wisdom of continuing to cultivate wisdom. They understood the soul of a scythe needed to remain pure. Free from malice and greed and pride, but filled with conscience. However, rot grows on even the sturdiest of foundations.”
Did Neal write a book completely intended to be fiction? Or perhaps was he reflecting on the founding fathers writing the constitution and what our government has become today?
Can reading fiction and giving it serious thought, help us to contemplate the world around us?
See my previous article on “Scythe” for more information about the book.
