Are you worried about increased floods, droughts and fires? Maybe the solution is as simple as human restraint and allowing beavers to flourish?
Instead of increasing flood risks, recent research shows that beaver ponds mitigate large floods. Beaver ponds also recharge depleted water tables. Biodiversity is increased by beaver activity.
Beaver ponds purify water, trap sediment, create habitats for fish, and spawn new ecosystems in areas that human engineers have struggled to fix themselves. Beavers heal drought-stricken watersheds with relative ease and without huge price tags. Beavers do incredible things—often faster, cheaper and better than humans.
Humans should just let the beavers do the work. Forget “AI”, let’s have beaver power save the world!
Global human population has skyrocketed. A thousand years ago global human population was only about three hundred million. This was roughly equivalent to the number of all hoofed animals in just North America. In the early 1800s the human population hit the one billion mark. In just the past two hundred years the human population has skyrocketed to eight billion. Humans now outnumber wild mammals eight fold!
More than 50% of Earth’s land mass has been completely transformed by humans for purposes of habitation, agriculture, logging, mining, and other uses. More than four million miles of road has been laid in the United States alone. It’s hard to find a spot anywhere on the planet unchanged in some way by human existence.
Baseline “normal” shift is a serious problem. Each generation adjusts to consider what they grew up with as normal. We have forgotten what normal was for the earth even just a few hundred years ago.
If each of us individually, help wildlife instead of hurting it, we could have a dramatic and incredible impact on the world. Just look at the amazing improvement the world experienced in just a few weeks of “shut down” due to the COVID insanity.
